Located in Caen, in Normandy, the Jean-Chapon hydraulic laboratory is a research and unique engineering in France, dedicated to the study of interactions between waves and marine works / infrastructures coastal.

With its 40 metres long and its depth of 1.50 metres, This experimental channel makes it possible to analyse, at large scale, the impact of swell on structures such as the dykes, jetties and coastal protection.
This project is the result of collaboration between the CEREMA, the Directorate-General for Infrastructure, Transport and the Sea (DGITM) and the Directorate-General for Risk Prevention (DGPR), under the aegis of Ministry of Ecological Transition.

With the rise in water level and the increasing number of extreme weather events, protecting coastal areas has become a priority. Visit Swell Canal contributes directly to this issue by enabling :
The Canal à Houle Jean Chapon is a tool integrating the work of BUILDERS Marine, a centre of expertise in maritime engineering at BUILDERS School of Engineering.
